Forrest General to celebrate National Eating Healthy Day on November 7

Forrest General is joining the American Heart Association’s Hattiesburg office in encouraging Pine Belt citizens to make healthy eating choices on Nov. 7 — National Eating Healthy Day.

National Eating Healthy Day is dedicated to the health and wellness of all Americans. Making small changes each day to incorporate healthier food choices is an easy way to create a positive lifestyle change, including a balanced eating pattern and physical activity. Forrest General encourages businesses to use the AHA’s resources and help employees take the first step toward healthy living by kicking off a wellness campaign or adding to an existing one!

Forrest General will put several changes in place at Forrester’s Food Court for the day on Wednesday, November 7 to celebrate National Eating Healthy Day. That day, heart-healthy options will be available at every food station with nutritional information, encouraging employees and visitors to make healthy selections for breakfast, lunch and dinner! High fat/calorie selections will not be available for the day, and only snack items that conform to the American Heart Association standards will be offered. Registered Dietitians will serve as “nutrition guides” during lunch, providing educational materials, answering questions and demonstrating how to make healthy food selections from the menu. These experts can help make choosing healthy foods based on each individual’s tastes and needs a fun, yet educational experience.

“It is important for Forrest General to participate in National Eating Healthy Day because it offers an opportunity to provide employees, patients and visitors with healthy eating education by assisting with meal selections,” said Forrest General registered dietitian Jennifer Easley, RD, CDE. “This day allows us to show that nutritious foods can be tasty and enjoyable, and let the community know that Forrest General’s Registered Dietitians are a resource for learning about good nutrition.”

“The American Heart Association, along with our platform sponsor Forrest General Hospital, will celebrate National Eating Healthy Day and encourage businesses and employees across the Pine Belt to participate by making healthy eating choices,” said Eve Elias, Regional Director for the American Heart Association Greater Southeast Affiliate. “National Eating Healthy Day is important to raise awareness about good nutrition to help in the fight against heart disease and stroke.”
