Adult Diabetes Support Group

The Adult Diabetes Support Group offers ongoing support to adults who live with diabetes and want to learn how to improve their diabetes management skills and knowledge. Facilitated by a Certified Diabetes Educator, Registered Nurse and Registered Dietitian who specialize in diabetes. Meetings are held on the last Wednesday of each month from 12-1 p.m., and are free to the public. Lunch is provided. For more information, call 601-288-1781. Autism Spectrum Support Group

The Autism Spectrum support group offers parents, family and community members the opportunity to share information about the disorder and learn how to cope with it. The meetings provide resources and guest speakers who are knowledgeable on autism. The meetings usually occur on the third Sunday of every month and are free to the public. Better Breathers Support Group

The Better Breathers Support Group gives patients, families and friends an opportunity to gather and share information about Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), as well as other breathing disorders. COPD includes conditions such as emphysema, asthma and chronic bronchitis. The group also has access to informational resources and speakers who are knowledgeable about the special needs of people with breathing disorders. Breast Cancer Support Group

The Breast Cancer Support Group, sponsored by Forrest General Hospital and the American Cancer Society, offers support for women who have experienced breast cancer. Both the newly diagnosed and those who have lived with breast cancer for years may benefit from the hope generated from shared thoughts, feelings and experiences. The CanSurmount Support Group helps cancer patients and their families cope with the overwhelming burden the disease places on them. In addition to emotional support, CanSurmount provides informational resources designed to help patients better understand the nature of the disease and treatment methods. Parkinson’s Support Group

Surviving After Infertility or Loss (SAIL)

SAIL is a support group for women who are enduring infertility or who have lost a baby due to miscarriage, still birth or neonatal loss. The meetings occur on the first and third Tuesday of each month. For more information, call 601-261-3371.
Upcoming Forrest General Family Birthplace Classes
Childbirth Preparation Course
Prepares participants for labor and delivery and offers a tour of the Family Birthplace. This class is free for those delivering at Forrest General, or $50 for others who wish to attend.
Classes meet for three weeks on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 6-8 p.m.

Saturday Childbirth Preparation Course

Breastfeeding Class
Provides details about breastfeeding for expectant and new moms as well as breastfeeding mothers who are having difficulty nursing or have questions. This class is free for those delivering at Forrest General, or $20 for others who wish to attend.

Baby Care Class
Teaches skills for new and expectant parents and baby caregivers such as bathing, diapering and recognizing signs and symptoms of illness. This class is free for those delivering at Forrest General, or $20 for others who wish to attend.

Sibling Class
Helps children ages 4-8 to adjust to the birth of a new family member. Teaches children about their role as big brothers or sisters and includes a tour of The Family Birthplace.
Meets on Thursday evenings from 6 – 7:30 p.m.

All Family Birthplace classes are held in Forrest General’s Maple Room located near Forrester’s Food Court in the hospital. All classes last only one session except for the Childbirth Preparation Course, which lasts for three sessions or a longer Saturday session. Classes can be repeated.
