Wesley Medical Park welcomed its first tenant last week as Wesley Medical Group – Oak Grove opened for business. Prospective patients and community members are invited to meet Dr. Brandon Coleman, nurse practitioner Selena Clearman, and their staff during an open house at 10 a.m. on August 9. The event will include refreshments, clinic tours and door prizes.

Dr. Benjamin Burkett stopped by WDAM Midday to introduce himself to the area and talk about community health.

Dr. Burkett is the new medical doctor who specializes in family medicine and pediatrics at the Wesley Medical Group in Petal.

The doctor came to talk about the importance of getting children immunized before school and adults who are Medicare eligible, to take advantage of the Annual Wellness benefit. It is a benefit to screen for certain diseases.

Will Harvey of Southeast Mississippi Rural Health Initiative stopped by the Midday Show Wednesday to talk about National Health Center Week.

National Health Center Week, August 6 -10, is a yearly observation to provide free screenings and to let people know the importance of health care by providing it to populations that are uninsured.

Will Harvey said the main goal of National Health Center Week is preventative health screenings. Harvey also added that the SMRHI will be visiting churches around the Southeast Mississippi area during the week.

A group of 35 young women from across the state who are competing in the 2012 Mississippi Miss Hospitality pageant visited Forrest General on Tuesday. The contestants took time out of their busy pageant week touring schedule to bring joy and smiles to patients in the hospital’s Pediatrics department.

Hattiesburg Regional Health Fair set for July 27 at Southern Miss

A fun walk, fitness demonstrations and free health screenings will highlight the 2012 Hattiesburg Regional Health Fair set for July 27 at the Payne Center on The University of Southern Mississippi campus.

With the theme “Roads to Wellness,” the fair begins at 9 a.m. with a one-mile fun walk. Related fair activities will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
