Vehicle fire halts traffic on Hwy 11 north of Petal | News

A vehicle fire shut down a portion of Highway 11 North near Petal Tuesday afternoon.

The fire occurred around 1:30 p.m. about four-miles north of Petal. The vehicle was traveling south through Eastabuchie when the driver stopped to put water in it because of overheating. The driver then continued down 11 and the engine overheated again and this time it caught fire.

The driver was able to safely exit the vehicle before it became completely engulfed. Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames on the vehicle and in the nearby brush quickly, but not before the vehicle was a total loss.

Traffic in both directions was diverted around the scene while the fire was being put out.
