HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM)- The Hattiesburg School District has finalized its request for ad valorem taxes for the upcoming school year...and the amount is the same as last year. The Hattiesburg School Board adopted a resolution Thursday night requesting just over $16 million in ad valorem taxes.
It's the third year in a row that the board has not asked for an increase in tax dollars.
The overall budget for the school district this year is about $57 million.
"We have managed to try to do our best to manage our resources as best as we possibly can," said James Bacchus, Hattiesburg school superintendent. "We've put forth a little over half-a-million dollars in cuts this year to try to be more efficient. And also, we're funding this year's budget with $1.5 million from our fund balance," Bacchus said.
The school district will present its resolution to the city council by August 15th.
