Hub City Transit gets four new buses | News
HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM)- Many Hattiesburg residents who use city buses will soon be experiencing a more safe and comfortable ride. Tuesday morning, Hub City Transit showcased four new buses which will be put into service in the coming days.
Three of them will be used for the city's demand response program. The fourth will drive along a Mobile Street fixed route.
They each have security cameras, a rear emergency exit and a new communication system.
The pricetag was $326,000 paid for by a federal grant.
"It's one of the things we want to continue to build on, is to have these kinds of amenities that will continue to invite people to come to Hattiesburg," said Johnny Dupree, mayor of Hattiesburg.
"We're one of the cheapest rides in town...50 cents, you can't beat it," said Vincent Nelms, division manager for Hub City Transit. "I really think we offer a lot for a little," he said.
The buses will replace older models in the city's fleet.
