JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM)- Officials with the Hattiesburg-Laurel Regional Airport gathered with representatives of Silver Airways to officially welcome them to the Pine Belt. A ribbon was cut at the Hattiesburg-Laurel Regional Airport Thursday morning to celebrate three months of service from the Florida-based air carrier.
Silver Airways took over from Delta Airlines in October as the airport's lone commercial carrier. It offers two non-stop flights each weekday and one on the weekend to Atlanta.
"It was a seamless move and the aircraft and schedule is working well at this point," said William K. Ray, chairman of the Hattiesburg-Laurel Regional Airport Authority Board of Commissioners.
"We see nothing but good things for this sort of joint relationship we have with the community," said Mickey Bowman, vice-president for Essential Air Service for Silver Airways.
Airport administrators, staff and board members are also celebrating several terminal access improvements, including the construction of new hangars, a new handicap access ramp and new road paving around the airport.
