The DuBard School for Language Disorders at The University of Southern Mississippi will host a comprehensive Multisensory Math seminar on Sept. 13-14 on the Hattiesburg campus.
The program is designed for general and special education teachers working with basic math through algebra; speech-language pathologists and academic language therapists. The cost is $275 ($300 after Aug. 31). The workshop is approved for 1.2 educator continuing units and 1.25 speech-language pathologist/audiologist continuing education units (intermediate level, professional area). Lunch is included in the fees.
“Students with dyslexia or learning difficulties often face challenges, not only in reading, but in other subject areas,” said Dr. Maureen Martin, director of the DuBard School for Language Disorders. “The proven multisensory techniques that are so beneficial in developing reading skills are applied in this workshop to the subject of math. Ms. (Marilyn) Zecher will instruct teachers and therapists in applying multisensory techniques to create success in math.”
