The following is a press release from William Carey University:

William Carey University enrolled 22 freshmen Carey Scholars in the 2012-2013 class.

The students are:

  • Meghan Maddox, Waveland

  • Brooke Padgett, Purvis
  • Kristel Rodriguez, Laurel

This year Carey Scholars total 77. They are select students chosen to be part of the Presidential Honors Program based on academic excellence. The Carey Scholars class is led by Dr. Scott Hummel, vice president for institutional advancement and church relations. The Scholars, who must obtain an ACT score of 29 to receive the scholarship, are required to maintain a 3.5 Grade Point Average, complete university service projects, take honors courses and attend  monthly Honors Colloquiums  and other events. In return, the students receive scholarships that provide free room and board and cover 30 hours of tuition per year.
